I can certainly relate to this one.... in a writing workshop I was told it takes 3 things to publish a novel 1: Perseverance, 2: A Good Story and 3: Luck -- and you only need 2 out of the 3. So, onward and upward. Thx for the RT/Mention today! Sometimes there's just so much going on that we "get lost" in all the shuffle. I know that I've lost time writing as I monitor emails, deal with Facebook responses and watch Twitter. It seems endless. Recently I had to designate certain hours of the day where my email and Twitter are turned off. I write for those hours, then reopen everything and spend a couple hours catching up. It's all good, it just has to be managed.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Re: Get Writing or Get Lost

Sometimes I wish I could get back to the good old days where I didn't know what I was doing and it was all about the love of the story in my head. It was so much easier to "just write" then. I'm trying to get back to that place somehow because I really do enjoy writing, and hopefully with what I've learned--and continue to learn--the final product will be better.

Re: Rejections letters are Great!

"YOU" wrote, not "toy" wrote.

Re: Rejections letters are Great!

Toy wrote a great entry at Janet Reid's latest contest.

Re: Rejections letters are Great!

Thanks!

Re: Rejections letters are Great!

Toy wrote a great entry at Janet Reid's latest contest.

Re: Writers Block is a Lie

Hello Mayara,

There may be a few things at work here. First; how long have you been a writer? Sometimes writing these kinds of scenes over and over can cause you to get used to them. They would not only get easier, but they'd be more fun.

Second; I don't think you have a major issue here because if you can write the chill down my spine scenes, to produce that chill (means you're a good writer), then you may just not be having as much fun dealing with the quieter scenes.

Keep in mind though...the quieter scenes are needed and not for filler. They're needed because people need to slow down and take a breath once in a while.

It sounds like transition scenes or set-up scenes that you're having trouble with.

How about trying a stereotype change. For instance; think about a truck driver in an 18-wheeler. What do you see? A man? Pot belly? Ball cap? Cigarette?
Now change the driver to a woman.
Now change what the woman is wearing to a white dress. Why is she wearing a dress? Is she new at the job? Is it a dare? Or did she lose a bet? Or is she just filling in for someone?

My point is to take your characters and shake them up a little. You may find that it's fun and new and exciting. Once that happens, doing the smaller in between scenes may become more tantalizing to you.

Let me know what happens. Come back to my blog and drop a comment if this helps.

Happy writing!

Re: Writers Block is a Lie

I know it's been months since this was published here and mayeb my comment won't be read, but I have a major issue that I could use some advice from more experienced people...
I block with "happy" or "normal" scenes. Always.
There are scenes that get a chill down my spine - that's how I know I wrote them right -, but with the normal scenes that line up the story of the .. well, story... I tend to block. I know what goes there, but's not COOL, I don't LIKE it, but I can't change the whole thing to "chill down my spine" scenes, it would look odd and make THOSE scenes look plain and usual, when they are actually special (first time boy flirts with girl, first time guy bites girl's neck *cough*, day boy leaves girl, etc.)... I tend to say I'm a writer of scenes, cause I can't REALLY make them all come together in a way I like it.
So I have a major issue there. Any ideas?

Re: Writer’s Block is a Lie

You're welcome.
